I’ve just found this on the queen victoria market website, after reading a comment about the market being built on an old cemetery that theshadow mentioned in another topic. Thanks for sparking my interest.
The Upper Market
The Upper Market (bounded by Queen, Victoria, Peel and Franklin Streets) was not originally reserved as a market but had a number of other uses including a school and drill hall. Its predominant use, however, was as Melbourne’s first cemetery. Construction of A-F sheds began in 1877 at the northern-most edge of the Market. This site was chosen because it contained the school, drill hall and the least-used section of the cemetery.
By 1930, the remainder of the site had been built upon. Between 1903 and 1905 A-C Sheds were extended to Peel Street, while D-F Sheds were not extended until 1922. That same year, the Queen Street and Peel Street verandahs were also constructed. The roofing of the centreway occurred in 1927. In 1929-1930 the large K and L Sheds were constructed for growers.
In 1929-30, the City of Melbourne constructed 60 brick stores on the current car park to house the wholesale agents and merchants. However, allegations of corruption and racketeering and a Royal Commission in 1960 led to the decision to relocate the Wholesale Market to Footscray in 1969. A single row of the Agents stores along Franklin Street is all that remains of the Merchants section of the Market.

That’s all that matters isn’t it? I don’t have to get out of bed until I really want to, I could stay there all day if I wanted to. But I won’t, what a waste of a saturday if I did. No plans for tomorrow, but have to work out something to do on Sunday afternoon, as I have to entertain a young girl (Mental age of 12, true age of 19) Was thinking the movies. Anyone seen any good movies lately that they can recommend seeing? PG Films and some M rated movies usually Ok. Prefer G or PG though. Nothing scary or too complex.

I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any jobs out there for Certificate III Assistants in Child care.
I’m currently working casually for an agency which sends me to different centres all over the East/South East of Melbourne, as well as working casually for a private hospital also doing child care.
I wish to have a job a little bit more permanent (not casual or temporary), and am considering studying for my Diploma of Children’s Services via correspondence.
I’ve been working in Child Care since 2004, working with children between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 years. I have Senior First Aid – Level 2, Emergency Asthma training and Anaphylaxis/EpiPen training. I also have experience caring for children with disabilities, including 2 young adults (19 and 21 years) with Mild Intellectual Disabilities who I regularly care for and have done so for about 9 years.
Any prospective employer will gain someone with child care experience, trained, very keen to work and learn as well as the possibility of a qualified worker in approx one year if I do embark on the Diploma course.
Please leave a message if you know of any possible positions.
Also on a different matter does anyone know of anyone who is studying or have studied Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice (or similar) as a family member of mine is just embarking on this course via distance learning and would like to know if there is anyone out there who she could bounce ideas off and basically have a study partner even if it is via email.

Well we are half way through another week. I was lucky today and managed to have a day off. I will probably have to work tomorrow, because I am a casual and if I don’t work I don’t get paid.
Today I’ve spent time on the internet, went shopping and got myself a new beadie book. (I make beaded jewellery), have done some washing and have enquired about an online course to update my qualifications.
What does everyone get up to on their day’s off? If you manage to get any that is.
Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been wanting to colour my hair. I bought one of the packs from the supermarket and got my mum to help me. It’s the first time I’ve coloured it in over a year. I absolutely loved it, but a friend of the family came over this morning and the first thing she did, once she actually noticed after an hour and a half, all she could do was say what a bad job my mum did. I love the colour and think she did a fantastic job and feel quite upset. I think she might be a bit jealous because I didn’t get her to do it for me. Honestly I don’t want her anywhere near my hair. But why can one person make me feel so bad without even noticing that it has upset me? She’s already trying to make plans so she can “fix” it for me. I don’t want it fixed, I like it the way it is. She didnt say one positive thing about it. I’m not someone who has to do stuff like this every day. I don’t wear much make-up and I’m quite happy to go out some times without even brushing my hair. It’s just really upset me that she can upset me this much with only a few comments.
Well another weekend has approached us. Another week gone. What does everyone do on their days off? Me I’m going to be babysitting tomorrow, then sunday I think just a nice relaxing day for me, I don’t plan on doing anything.

While I’ve noticed that things seemed to have picked up on here lately, the ”regulars” seem to be leaving. I admit I don’t post much anymore, but always try to respond to other peoples posts. But so far ackbar has decided he will post no more in nook, only comment every so often and meinrosebud has put a somewhat strange farewell message up. Some nooks that I regulary check also have had no new posts for ages. I’m going to try and post for often for without every one’s input this site will die and how are we supposed to keep people here if we don’t put up our own posts and make the site interesting?
I loved waking up this morning to the sound of rain and thunder. It has seemed like forever since we actually had a storm in the morning, it’s always a storm in the evening. It’s so windy out there at the moment. I love this type of weather, I love listening to the rain and thunder. My dog doesn’t like it, she gets very upset during storms. We’ve had to pay a few fines over the years to get her released from the pound because she has escaped. We have a fully enclosed back yard, but she actually climbs the fence, no matter how high we have it, and she has even broken windows trying to get out to escape the noise. It’s not just Thunder storms either, it’s fireworks and thumping car stereos that drive her crazy as well.
